On Sunday, May 6th, the ecumenical Phillipsburg Ministerial Association will host it's third annual CROP WALK. This year, we will start the walk at Grace Lutheran on Roseberry St. in Phillipsburg, and then go down to St. Luke's Episcopal and up to Pilgrim Presbyterian and back. The whole walk is about 2 miles long, but can be done twice by those interested (or not!). Other Ministerial Alliance churches participating in the CROP WALK are: Alpha Presbyterian, St. James' Lutheran, and Old Greenwich Presbyterian.
What is it for? The CROP WALK raises awareness of people and countries where the basic needs we count upon are lacking: clean drinking water, food and shelter. By simply turning on the faucet in our kitchens and filling our glasses with clean water, we are able to do more most of the people in the world. And we need YOUR help to make clean water and other basic needs readily available to our brothers and sisters.
In 2010, we helped to raise over $3,400 for this wonderful outreach and our goal this year is to beat that amount!
In 2011, we broke the prevous year's total, and WE HOPE TO BREAK THAT in 2012!
For this year, the amount of the funds raised that stays "local" has been designated for the Family Promise IHN, which houses families that would otherwise be homeless. It literally helps keep families together in rough financial times. FYI- From amongst the parishes in the Phillipsburg Ministerial Alliance, Old Greenwich and St. Luke's and Alpha United Presbyterian all participate with Family Promise as "Host" churches. Pilgrim Presbyterian also participates as a support church for this great program!
Please consider helping in the following ways:
- WALK: Join us for the walk. This year, our walk will be from St. Luke's to Grace Lutheran to Pilgrim Presbyterian and back to St. Luke's (twice= 4 miles). To walk, contact Vic Zeno, who is St. Luke's team captain, and get a fundraiser signup form. Then, bring the form with all monies on the day of the walk and return to Lorrie. Alternatively, you can register online as a walker by joining the "St. Luke's Episcopal Church" team by clicking HERE. A new page opens and then you click "join team."
- For walkers from OTHER CHURCHES SIGN UP BY CLICKING HERE. From this page, you'll be able to sign up and then opt to "join a team." Look for your church's team or walk as an individual if you don't see a team.
- If you have friends or family that might be interested in sponsoring you as a walker, please send them an email inviting them to do so along with the link (*You'll get a same email once you register, which you can then forward to others).
- Sponsor a walker. You can do this by sponsoring a specific person or by donating to our "team" by clicking THIS LINK and then click "Donate" on the screen that opens.
- Providing refreshments for our walkers after the walk. You can bring the food and drinks to St. Luke's, and we'll be eating in the parish hall.
- Volunteering at a "break stop" at one of the three churches to give water, etc. to walkers.
- Prayer for a great day to walk and for the relief of those in need and for fun and fellowship for those who walk!
God bless you, and thank you for your support of the CROP WALK, and thank you for helping to END HUNGER ONE STEP AT A TIME!
